“Venus” By La’Toya Smith

The theme of this work is inspired by Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, while its execution draws from Renaissance techniques, incorporating foreshortening, heightened realism, and the dramatic use of shadow characteristic of the High Renaissance. Through this lens, the Goddess of love and beauty is reimagined and embodied in the Black woman.
